2 PETER 1:16-18 NOT A STORY BUT AN ACCOUNT OF EYE WITNESS

Passage

For we were not following cleverly devised stories when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah), but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty (grandeur, authority of sovereign power). For when He was invested with honor and glory from God the Father and a voice was borne to Him by the [splendid] Majestic Glory [in the bright cloud that overshadowed Him, saying], This is My beloved Son in Whom I am well pleased and delight, We [actually] heard this voice borne out of heaven, for we were together with Him on the holy mountain. (2 Peter 1:16-18 AMP)

Truths :

1. Here Peter confirms that power and the 2nd coming of Christ which the apostles are preaching, talking about and testifying are not made up cleverly devised   stories.
2. The apostles had the great opportunity to eye witness the majesty and power of Christ while He was on earth.
3. Peter remembers with awe the 'The Transfiguration' of Jesus which he and two other apostles witnessed. Jesus had received the honor and glory from God that day when the apostles heard the voice of God from heaven confirm that
 - Jesus is His son
 - He loved Jesus
 - He is well pleased with Jesus
4. Peter , James and John bear witness to this event while they accompanied Jesus on the sacred mountain.

Application:

The words of the apostles are not just stories but a report of actual events and also revelations which God allowed them to see. There are many  religious books which have many stories to help us to do the right thing morally, but they are not an account of what had really happened. Peter had borne witness on the mount when the voice of God honoured Jesus calling him His Son and informing of how pleased He was. Peter reminds us that the three of them had a great opportunity to witness this. They testify this to other apostles and millions of people later.

So when we are confronted by people who just consider the bible as yet another storybook, we can confirm that it is an account of what apostles had really witnessed and whatever the Lord had revealed that will happen in the future is going to happen. The second coming of Christ that the apostles are preaching is really going to happen and rapture can happen anytime. So let us all be ready for His second coming. Let us lead many more to Christ so that they are not left behind and miss the beauty of heaven. We do not know when the Lord is coming back or when we will leave this earth and so if you haven't accepted Jesus as your saviour , Do it now. Repent your sins and commit to following Him.

Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord, (Acts 3:19 NIV)

For he says, “In the time of my favor I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you.” I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation. (2 Corinthians 6:2 NIV)

PRAYER:

Abba Father, I believe that every word in the Bible is true. Illuminate the truths to me when I do my quiet time so that I may understand it deeply and apply it to my life. The verses for today serves as a confirmation to what we believe and at the same time a warning that the second coming will happen. Help us to reach out to many more and make them understand that the salvation can be achieved only through you and that they need to repent from their sins and commit themselves to the faith in you. We highly honour the apostles for the account they provided of your majesty and glory so that we too may understand the beauty and be saved by you.
In Jesus precious name I pray
Amen.
